Loni Love criticizes Tyler Perry after 0% Movie Rating

Comedian Loni Love took aim at Tyler Perry after his most recent film received negative reviews and had a 0% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

According to The Jasmine Brand, Love charged Perry of undervaluing Black filmmakers and writers and said that, with greater generosity with his finances, he might produce films deserving of awards.

Loni said on X/Twitter, "It's great that Tyler is now compensating Black actors. I wish he would hire experienced Black writers and directors to assist him with his movies."

"If he would stop trying to save money by doing the writing and directing himself, he could improve the movies and make them worthy of an award," she said.

Her remarks are in reaction to the negative reviews of Perry's most recent endeavor, "Divorce In The Black," which starred Cory Hardrict and Meagan Good. The protagonist of the tale is Ava, a young bank worker who is devastated when her husband Dallas leaves their marriage, which she is determined to save until destiny steps in and exposes Dallas' evil deeds that have destroyed their union and once ruined Ava's chance to be loved by her true soulmate.

The movie has a rare "0%" rating on Rotten Tomatoes after receiving harsh reviews from reviewers.

In 2021, when Perry acknowledged that he doesn't have a writer's room and writes all of the scripts for his shows alone, fans of the Hollywood tycoon pleaded for him to appoint a group of seasoned Black writers and directors. In response to the criticism, Perry declared that he would be recruiting a group of writers to make adjustments to his Atlanta studio.

"I don't know if you know this, but every television show has a writers room," Perry stated at the time in a video uploaded on Instagram. Additionally, the majority of the writers for these TV series are ten, twelve, or whatever. I don't have a writers room, though. My work is written by no one. Everything is written by myself. Why am I revealing this to you? In 2019, I authored all of these scripts by myself. Workplace morality!

He described the difficulties he had at the beginning of his career finding Black writers to hire, and how this led to the creation of his "NO WRITERS ROOM" policy, in an interview with the men's magazine Level.

Therefore, I signed a contract with TBS when I initially started my profession. When it came time to staff, I went to DGA, SAG, and IATSE and said, "I'm financing these shows myself; TBS isn't paying me upfront." I need to work out a contract for compensation rates since I'm neither Disney or Sony," Perry remarked. "They arranged fantastic bargains for me. I had a group of nonunion writers at the time, and I wasn't thrilled with a single script they produced. It was not a voice they were speaking to. They were just uninformed.
