In a recent interview, Marlon Wayans discusses his transgender son Kai on the radio program "The Breakfast Club." 
Wayans said of his eldest child, who is 23 years old and was born a girl but now identifies as a man using the pronouns They/Them, "I talk about the transition, not their transition, but my transition as a parent going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance." And I know that I'm coping with it, but I believe that a lot of parents need to hear that message. I was in a really terrible circumstance," he continued.
In an effort to encourage families to accept their transgender children more, the father of two is sharing his journey.
Wayans stated of Kai, "They know I love them." They witness my efforts. They simply say, "I'm content."
The comedian declared that he is all about honoring his kids' "wishes," including Shawn, Kai's 21-year-old sibling.
"As a parent, I just want my kids to be free, and I gotta respect their wishes, right?" Wayans said to the hosts of The Breakfast Club.
"I want them to be free to be who they are, free in spirit and thought. He went on, "The more you live your truth, the more you can govern yourself, and the more you know yourself, the happier your existence will be." "How the f— do I send them out into the world with that kind of confidence if they can't get that in a household with their father and their mother?"
"I'm just so proud of them for being them," Wayans continued.
