New documentary on Michael Bivins to explore New Edition and BBD
Michael Bivins' life narrative will be featured in a new documentary on the ALLBLK streaming channel. "The Hustle of @617MikeBiv" tells the story of a child from Roxbury, Massachusetts' Orchard Projects who wanted to play in the NBA but was asked to join the famed group New Edition owing to his popularity as a baller.

"I did what I had to do, and I did it by any means necessary," says Bivins in the trailer. It then goes on to give an outline of Bivins' career highs and lows. There are interviews with New Edition members Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Johnny Gill, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant.

"He was popular on his side of the projects and on my side of the projects," Brown says in the trailer.

Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri, Doug E. Fresh, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Quincy Jones, Magic Johnson, and Russell Simmons are among many who have commented on Bivins' career.

The 54-year-old musician, entrepreneur, and music executive co-founded the Bell Biv DeVoe offshoot group with Ricky Bell and Ronnie DeVoe and signed Boyz II Men to a record deal.

Teasha L. Bivins, his wife, is one of the documentary's executive producers. Producers include Shirley Bivins, Bivins' older sister Tanya Bivins, Yvonne McNair, and Brooke Payne.

"The Hustle of @617MikeBiv" premieres on ALLBLK on August 24 and will air again on WE tv on Thursday, October 5.
