As if the sought-after Stanley Quencher could cause more trouble. Collectors flock to every new edition of the cup. It became viral after surviving a vehicle fire. It's currently under criminal investigation.
The Roseville, California, Police Department said on Facebook that a 23-year-old woman was detained on January 17 for stealing 65 Stanley items worth over $2,500.
"Staff saw a woman take a shopping cart full of Stanley water bottles without paying for them," the report added. "The suspect refused to stop for staff and stuffed her car with the stolen merchandise."
The statement says a police officer stopped the automobile after the theft was reported. The officer located Stanley items in the trunk, passenger seat, and cup holder during the search.
She was arrested for grand theft.
"While Stanley Quenchers are all the rage, we strongly advise against turning to crime to fulfill your hydration habits," added the release.
Recently released cult-favorite products have caused havoc, but fans waited out to get the Starbucks Christmas Stanley in November. The $49.95 tumbler cost $200 on eBay.
What's next for the cult product? Right now, nobody knows. It may suffer the same fate as our childhood Beanie Babies. I mean, how many recyclable cups are necessary?
