Tangipahoa Parish escaped convict now back in custody

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office (TPSO) has successfully captured an escapee in a recent development.

In an official statement this morning, TPSO announced, "Channing Garrett has been located and taken into custody!"

Earlier, law enforcement had sought assistance from the public in locating the escaped inmate.

A news release from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office had initially cautioned, "Sheriff Daniel Edwards says at 4:03 this morning, an inmate identified as 39-year-old Channing Garrett (black male) escaped custody."

According to detectives, Garrett had left the jail dressed in all white attire with black shoes.

"Garrett was initially incarcerated due to a judge's hold related to the violation of a protective order."

In addition to this charge, Garrett was serving time for various white-collar crimes, including forgery and injuring public records.

"Anyone with information about Garrett’s whereabouts is urged to immediately contact 911. Citizens are also advised to remain vigilant for anyone matching his description."
