A Wingstop employee in Memphis, Tennessee, is facing aggravated assault charges after allegedly throwing hot cooking oil on two customers during a heated dispute inside the restaurant. The incident occurred on July 22 at the Wingstop location on Winchester Road, where 25-year-old Johnisa Herring reportedly became involved in an argument with two women who had come to pick up their food. According to a complaint affidavit signed on Monday, Herring went into the kitchen, filled a bowl with hot oil, and hurled it at the customers.

One of the women was hit in the face and upper torso, suffering second-degree burns across 18.5% of her body and requiring immediate hospitalization. The other woman sustained burns to her right shoulder. The more seriously injured customer later identified Herring as the person who threw the oil. Authorities have not released details about what sparked the confrontation.
Following the incident, Herring was arrested and booked into Shelby County Jail with a bond set at $7,500. Although her initial court appearance was scheduled for Friday, jail records indicated she was no longer in custody by Saturday, suggesting she had been released. Her next court date is set for August 25, 2025.
