Micah Parsons, the Dallas Cowboys’ star pass rusher, has formally requested a trade, citing deep frustrations with the team’s handling of his contract negotiations. In a statement posted to X with the caption “Thank you Dallas,” Parsons expressed disappointment over the lack of communication from the organization and declared, “I no longer want to be here.”
Parsons explained that he and his agent had reached out to the Cowboys both before and after the 2024 NFL season to initiate talks about a new deal, but received no response. He recounted a March meeting with team owner Jerry Jones, initially intended to discuss leadership, which shifted into a conversation about his contract. Although Parsons engaged in a back-and-forth with Jones, he did not consider it a formal negotiation and expected further discussions to take place through his agent. However, when his agent followed up, the team allegedly went silent.
In his statement, Parsons emphasized that no demands had been made regarding salary or contract length, yet the Cowboys had still not initiated any talks. He confirmed that he submitted his trade request directly to team COO and co-owner Stephen Jones.
Despite Parsons’ request, reports indicate that the Cowboys have no intention of trading him. At 26 years old, Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is set to earn $24 million in 2025 before becoming a free agent. Since being drafted 12th overall in 2021, he has become one of the league’s top defenders, earning four consecutive Pro Bowl selections and twice being named a first-team All-Pro.
Parsons has continued to show up for team activities, including voluntary workouts in April and training camp, although he has not participated in practices due to the unresolved contract situation. His trade request followed a cryptic GIF posted on social media suggesting this could be his final season with the Cowboys. Several teammates have publicly supported him, changing their social media avatars to include images of Parsons.
