Red Dress Run celebrates 30 Years in New Orleans

New Orleans was awash in crimson on Saturday, August 9, as thousands of runners—and revelers—took to the streets for the 30th annual Red Dress Run. Hosted by the New Orleans Hash House Harriers, the beloved charity event once again transformed the city into a sea of red, with participants donning everything from elegant gowns to outrageous costumes, all in the name of fun and philanthropy.

The two-mile “run”—more of a festive stroll—kicked off at 10 a.m. at Armstrong Park and wound through the French Quarter, with unscheduled stops at local bars and plenty of dancing in the streets. While athleticism may not be the main focus, the event’s charitable impact is undeniable. Last year’s Red Dress Run raised $150,000 for local nonprofits, and organizers expect similar results this year.

Participants must be 21 or older and are encouraged to register in advance, with 100% of proceeds going to New Orleans-based charities. The event also featured live music and lunch at Crescent Park, keeping the party going well into the afternoon.

The Red Dress Run has become a staple of New Orleans culture, blending the city’s love of costumes, community, and celebration. Whether you’re a runner, a walker, or just there to cheer from the sidelines, one thing’s for sure: in New Orleans, red never goes out of style.
