Southern Hot Water Cornbread

Southern Hot Water Cornbread

INGREDIENTS

  1. Cornmeal

  2. Salt

  3. Butter (Unsalted if you prefer)

  4. Boiling Water

  5. Oil

DIRECTIONS

  1. Use a mixing bown to mix cornmeal and salt together (Tablespoon or to your liking)

  2. Boil water in a pot. (Water must be boiling to add to your mix)

  3. Pour boiling water into mix bowl and stir until you can feel a smooth blend of dough. Usually takes about a 1/2 cup of water and maybe a few extra tea spoons. DO NOT use too much water. That will mess up your dough. You need it to be a smooth mix so you can make little patties with it.

  4. Stir in melted butter. You can use bacon grease, ghee, or whatever fat you prefer but butter is the easiest. Plus, it give the bread a buttery flavor.

  5. Let the dough sit for about 5 minutes to marinate.

  6. Pour about a 1/4 inch of oil (Canola or Vegetable) into your skillet.

  7. When the oil is hot, form little patties with your dough mix and place each patty into the hot skillet.

  8. Let each patty cook about 2-3 minutes and flip them over. Repeat until you see the patty becomes golden brown.

  9. Take them out and let the grease drain off of each patty. Good to use a slittled spoon or spatula to take them out of the skillet to drain them.

  10. Once they have cooled a little, they are ready to eat!
