Alabama Coach Nick Saban announces retirement

A wellknown figure in collegiate football is retiring from the game.

According to a report published on ESPN's Chris Low on Wednesday, Alabama coach Nick Saban has decided to retire and has told his squad of this decision.

The shocking announcement follows Alabama's season ending loss to Michigan on New Year's Day in the College Football Playoff semifial.

The 72-year old was in his 17th year as a Tuscaloosa resident and his 28th year as a collegiate football coach going into this season. With a 292-71-1 record at the end of his storied career—five victories were nullified by the NCAA in 2009 due to a regulation infraction—Sabban has won seven national titles and eleven SEC titles.
